Highlighted Services

Research Help
Students have access to many resources when they find they need some extra assistance with a project or just using the library resources.

  • Ask A Librarian - This service is for questions that can be answered with brief, factual information via email or telephone. The student will be guided to appropriate sources and strategies to obtain the necessary information. Questions that require more in-depth reference assistance are best handled by speaking to a reference librarian.

Requests are read Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Normally, a response is generated within 24 hours. If requests are submitted after these hours they will be read the next business day. Requests submitted Friday evening through Sunday will be read on Monday.

  • Library Research Advisory Service - This service provides an opportunity for students to meet one-on-one with a reference librarian to help complete library research successfully. This is not an email reference service, but could be set up for telephone communication if the student is unable to come to the campus.

  • Research Guides - General research guides are available for students for citing resources in MLA and APA style, both print and electronic formats; film and book reviews. Guides are being added continuously. If you have ideas of guides that would be helpful for your students, please contact Cindi or Michael.

  • Research Process - The research process as explained in the Library workshops offered at the McCormick Library.

  • How to... - Quick "tip sheets" on accessing electronic reserves, local newspapers, and ordering videos.

Class Guides
There are currently 6 course specific "Class Guides" on the Library Web Site. These pages originated with bibliographic instruction sessions conducted by various librarians. The guides are tailored to the specific class needs and provide a wealth of information for the students in the class. The most comprehensive are the Nursing sites which were done as the pilot project for the Wired Faculty Institute.

For the more extensive Wired Faculty Institute projects we are looking for programs that are offered at or would benefit students at all the campuses. If you are interested in developing a guide specifically for your class or a Wired Faculty Project, please contact Cindi or Michael.
